Mission Function
Servers
This new functionality allows any computer to be
placed on the network and used as a mission function
server. Mission function severs may return terrain following /
intersection and bounding box test information, when configured by the
application. The use of a mission function sever may result in more
stable performance for the design's rendering systems, because the
mission functions (typically a very unpredictable load on a visual
channel) need not be performed in line any longer.

Operating System Compatibility
BARE V5 requires Windows 2000, Windows XP, or Windows XP
Embedded. BARE V6 and BARE-DI require Windows XP or XP Embedded (with a
proper user-created configuration). BARE/BARE-DI has been tested on Intel and AMD 32-bit processors in single, dual,
and Hyperthreading configurations. In all configurations, the best performance
is provided with only limited CPU load.

Graphics Compatibility
Compatible with many DirectX 9.x cards.
Most high-end cards work well, however economy cards (as one may expect) fare
poorer. The following table shows the status for common graphics cards in
use as of February 2006, roughly listed from best performance and
visual quality to most economical when running typical applications.

BARE and BARE-DI can transform your laptop into a near-precision gunnery
trainer. The following options have been thusfar evaluated. Note
that some laptop architectures lack the capability needed to provide "lock
step" sync. In these cases, a less-precise software
synchronization method is substituted in order to maintain a consistent frame rate. Current
laptops fail to reach the performance of the best desktop systems, and tend to
have cooling problems when used for extended periods rendering in 3D, thus the
phrase "laptop supported" is used to describe this distinction. |
Note that the a mobile chips and
desktop versions, even with similar names, such as "RADEON 9600" and "RADEON
Mobility 9600" (true of Nvidia parts as well)
usually have vastly different performance levels and frequently totally
different architectures. In the case of the RADEON 9600 and RADEON
Mobility 9600, for instance, the mobile version contains half the pixel
pipelines as its desktop version, resulting in very different capabilities.
